Who doesn't love space? Who doesn't love Disney? Combine the two and (Great Scott!) you've got a hit. Space Mountain makes our list of favorite things simply because it is so darn cool. Opening its doors at Disney World in 1975 and Disneyland two years later in 1977, Space Mountain isn't Disney's oldest ride, but its certainly one of it's most famous.
What kid hasn't dreamt of going to space? Walt Disney had the right idea when he developed Space Mountain, but there are so many other reasons to love this far out ride. For instance, you can feel the 70's vibe-ness resonating from the ride's walls as you await your launch into "space". Also, this ride is pretty much a roller coaster in the dark. That's right. IN. THE. DARK. Just think about that. It's all sorts of terrifying and amazing all at the same time. It really makes you feel like you might be in a late 70s/early 80s space-themed movie like Star Wars or The Last Starfigher.

Okay, also look at how cute these retro Space Mountain ride attendants were! Their outfits are pure retro magic.
AND how rad is the music for this ride? Don't worry. If you don't live near a Disney Park, you can kind of simulate the joy and wonder of Space Mountain by playing this music in your car while driving around at night. Bring a few friends with you and some mouse ears to really get in the spirit!
It's a fact. Space Mountain is one of the best rides ever in our book.
